Understanding How Much Replacement ... - Home Improvement Idea

by Home on Sunday, March 18th, 2012 | Comments Off

If you?re thinking of trying to improve the overall value of your home then one of the first things you should consider doing is installing replacement windows. However, the first thing you need to do is fully understand what the replacement windows cost is likely to be, you can?t spend more on the windows than you?re actually going to make back selling your home.

A common mistake is misunderstanding how much home improvement jobs are likely to cost in your home, that?s why you need to make sure you?ve done your homework before getting anyone in to quote for a job.

There are three main costs involved with replacement windows that you need to be aware of, these include all of the following:

    • The cost of the window units

    • The contractor installation and removal costs

The cost of the window units will usually be around $200 per window, however this will increase depending on the type of window you have. For example, bay and bow window are largely more expensive to buy and install than any other type of window, casement and picture windows however are the cheapest to install but offer the least options.

The overall cost of replacement windows would usually be around 50-60% of your total budget with the contractor costs usually adding a further 30%. The addition of extras such as internal and external finishes, glazing options etc will add a further 10-20% in most cases but can add more.

Overall, if you?re looking to replace your home windows then you really need to make sure that you?ve done your home work and have a full understanding of how far your budget is likely to stretch. The last thing you want is to find out you owe more than you can afford to pay.
