Blood drive for boy with cancer

One boy in Floyd County is encouraging hundreds of people to donate blood to save lives.

One boy in Floyd County is encouraging hundreds of people to donate blood to save lives.

He has been battling cancer for eight months and has received many blood donations since his diagnosis.

Trevor Wright of Prestonsburg is a typical kid.

"I'm 9, and I like to play baseball," said Trevor.

But one thing separates him from other kids. He has ALL, which is a form of leukemia and cancer of the white blood cells.

Trevor's battle with cancer started on Mother's Day last year.

"That's the first time he'd ever been in the hospital for anything. I mean other than just a little common cold, he'd never been in the hospital since he was born," said Tyron Wright, who is Trevor's father.

Since his diagnosis, Trevor has used 39 units of blood and receives a chemo treatment at home every night.

"It's been really hard. One thing we found out was that he's the one that gets the treatments, but the whole family got the cancer," said Larry Burton, who is Trevor's grandfather.

But Trevor's parents say his smile gives them the strength to push on.

"That's what keeps you going. That and you have to put everything in God's hands," said Tyron.

Trevor says he could not do it without his mom and dad.

"They tell me that it's going to be alright and that nothing is gonna happen," said Trevor.

His family says faith and blood donors will keep Trevor happy and healthy through his fight against cancer.

The Wright family not only wants people to donate for Trevor. They want anyone of any blood type to give blood to save lives.

"I'm glad that I can give, and I'll probably be giving pretty regularly now," said Burton.

Your blood could save Trevor or someone else.
